Case Studies

Problem

a well known Swedish MNC engaged in manufacturing various engineering products was facing a typical problem at their Chiplun factory. They were having Epoxy floor on which pallets containing material were placed. Epoxy floor was getting damaged frequently due to impact of these pallets while material handling.

SIPL’s Solution

Rubber bushed were used to take the impact but was not successful, as Team Speciality studied the application and understand that previously used rubber bushes were not suitable for this application as load bearing capacity, tear strength and weather-ability of rubber is very low.

Then speciality designed a PU Bush containing metal insert which were fitted at the bottom of the pallet legs in place of rubber bushes.

This PU bushes indeed performed much better as PU has excellent Load bearing capacity, tear strength and weather-ability. Additionally PU being non-marking, there was no colour transfer of the Epoxy floor.

Company appreciated this and was very much satisfied with the products. The Products are performing well there since last more than 3 years.

Problem

A reputed manufacturing company engaged in processing of precious materials using unique Iso-static press method, where Material was processed using a rubber membrane. The end product using those rubber membranes was not consistent in quality. Further life of these rubber membranes was very limited hence frequent changes were required.

SIPL’s Solution

Team Speciality developed a soft material from which membranes were manufactured and supplied to Hindustan Platinum.

It was observed that end products coming out using this PU membrane was much more superior (homogeneous density, product finish) as compare to earlier. Further life of PU Membranes was multiple times high as compare to Rubber membrane.

Problem

An Indian conglomerate, famous for its IT business and also engaged in manufacturing of precise currency counting machines was in need of PU parts for these machines. These PU Parts were imported earlier and conglomerate was looking for a local vendor who can offer same quality product at reasonable price and particular delivery period.

SIPL’s Solution

Team Speciality studied the application and developed a special grade for the same. Main challenge was sizes of items and close tolerances. Using its experience speciality developed a technique suitable to process items worth 5-10 grams and also developed machining set-up to get desired tolerances. These Products were well appreciated and approved by their International clients.

Problem

Club 29 is a unique commercial building having various sports, entertainment, banquet hall and fine dining facilities. A bowling alley is accommodated on 2nd floor below which a banquet hall is placed. Now when the bowling activity is on, lot of noise is generated in banquet hall below when ball collides with surface and rolls to destination causing tremendous disturbance / inconvenience. So either bowling activity or banquet hall functions need to be kept closed causing loss of revenue.

Solutions given by Team-Speciality

After studying the scenario, team speciality realized that bowling alley was constructed directly on the floor (hard contact) causing amplified impact noise in hall when ball collides with surface and then rolls to the target.

When root cause was defined, team speciality decided to isolate the bowling alley using Regufoam 220 below trusses and Regupol below pin setters as shown below. Also it was recommended to isolate every hard contact of bowling alley with floor using Regupol material.

Results

With above arrangement, bowling alley was installed again and it was observed that even though the bowling activity is on, sound level in the banquet hall below is reduced to more than 90% than earlier and now both the activities can go simultaneously without any inconvenience in hall. Sound level in dB (A) measured before and after isolation are as below.

Sr Description Before Isolation in dB (A) After Isolation in dB (A)
1 Ambient Sound level in Hall 30 30
2 Sound level in hall when ball strikes 65 33
